There is a range of fees a person seeking legal counsel might be need to put forward for a simple petition or form. Keep in mind that not all situations are "simple". Legal fees are the cost of the attorney's time and effort which are in addition to costs such as I.N.S. or other legal filing fees, travel costs if any, mailing, long distance calls, and such out of pocket costs. Further, each case will have to be discussed with the attorney or law office to determine whether the particular fee is appropriate, or not. Sometimes the situation is more complex, not at all "simple." Still, note that attorneys may go anywhere from "free" (rare) to thousands dollars, depending on time involved.
