Good neighbor policy. Requiring more driver education, and annual re-education at renewal time, would go a long way toward increasing the safety of this most dangerous instrument, the automobile, that kills at least 35,000 people a year in the United States, alone. Increasing the driving age and putting limits on how long someone can drive or requiring more frequent testing of all drivers would help the most, but would be vigorously opposed by car manufactures and sellers, since it would cut into the market for cars.

In good hands. Remember, insurance claims adjusters have the job of representing the allegedly careless drivers who hit others.

Every good card player knows that once you've shown your hand to the opponents, they've won the game! Working without an attorney pits experienced card players, the adjusters, against novice, one-time entrants, the injured parties. That's what a good injury attorney is supposed to do, step into the card game and play the injured person's hand out along with him. An insurer's inducement to deal with them because "you don't need an attorney" amounts to unauthorized practice of law, according to some state attorneys general. Recognizing this, most insurers have tended to steer clear of this approach.

Sometimes the "good hands" turn to mighty empty, once they've got the accident victim on record as talking about money.
